My 2 favorite things about Japan are Scarlett Johannson's character in Lost in Translation and the 80s metal band Loudness. So, on our recent book tour, which took us to Tokyo, I hit at least 12 karaoke bars trying to catch a glimpse of Loudness. But it turns out that most people in Japan haven't even heard of them and I'd probably have better luck drinking saki with the Emperor. Nevertheless, I was a little nervous about our book and the trip to the far east knowing the anger we've caused with some "less than flattering posts" about Asians. But, all and all we came home with some "interesting" reviews. Tommy Yokomura of The Tokyo Sun wrote, "The Saterite of Ruv is raff out roud hirrarious, Not!". While Ito Kinmochi at The Japanese Literary Club was not as nice, he said, "After reading the book I was quite surprised. I was expecting typical American filth and garbage but what I got was far worse." Nice! The last scathing review was by Kuroda Kiyotaka from the very prestigious University of Tokyo he said, "This book somehow has managed to insult, rape, torture and murder anyone who has ever read or written a book. I felt stupid just holding it in my hands" Wow! Anyway, our trip to Japan was unsuccessful but the book tour rages on. Maybe our unscheduled stop in North Korea will bring us some good luck.Sunday, February 14, 2010
